Magis Moment: February 2026
A Message from the Vice President of University Advancement
February in New Orleans is always a time of celebration. The news comes quickly as Mardi Gras presents opportunities to recognize Carnival royalty, to see musicians and performers doing surprise shows while visiting town, to enjoy pop-up menus featuring seasonal local favorites. All eyes are on the news and social media for the latest updates to celebrate the season in style.
Many of our Loyola alumni are currently working in communications and media fields in our city and across the world, contributing to our ability to stay informed. And, thanks to a generous alumnus and donor, more students may find their way to careers in communications in the future. Through the support of John Deveney ’88, the Loyola University New Orleans College of Music and Media announced the creation of the Deveney Endowed Internship Scholarship. This updated fund marks a renewed commitment to empowering Loyola’s public relations students through paid, high-impact internship experiences.
John has been a wonderful friend to Loyola for decades, and we are so excited to solidify his legacy through this endowed fund. An engaged volunteer and public relations advisor, John and his company, DEVENEY Communications, have helped connect Loyola graduates with professional opportunities for three decades. Thank you, John, for this incredible opportunity for our students to continue their education while building their future careers. And congratulations to DEVENEY Communications for its 30 successful years.
Sincerely,

Stephanie Hotard '04, M.B.A. '10
